Oncology services at King’s College Hospital Dubai are focused on the diagnosis, treatment, management of side effects of solid tumour and haematology cancer treatment, disease related complication, survivorship and palliative care.
The services consist of a multidisciplinary team consisting of oncologists, haematologists, surgeons, specialist hospitalist, oncology nurses, psychologist and allied health professionals. The multidisciplinary ensures delivery of safe, effective and timely care and treatment in an environment that promotes respect and caring.
The provision of oncology care delivery requires specialised knowledge, judgement and skill, based on best practice models derived from physical, biological, behavioural, psychosocial and medical evidence-based principles. As such the oncology patient services will be planned, coordinated, provided, delegated and supervised by qualified staff with specialist oncology skills.
Adult oncology patients shall be cared for on the oncology unit located on the 5th floor. The oncology unit operates as a day case unit 8am to 1800hrs, 6 days a week with a nursing ratio of 1 nurse to 4 patients with medical support available on the unit. Physician care is provided by a dedicated consultant who is able to delegate to a specialist trained oncology hospitalist in their absence. If the threshold of nurse patient ratio is surpassed this will be escalated through the appropriate line management. Multidisciplinary meetings will be held by the oncologist, surgeons, radiologist and pathologist at the relevant intervals to discuss appropriate clinical management.
